Workshop Overview

The Maritime Research Center (MRC) is organizing a three-day workshop under the “Forestry Training and Capacity Building” scheme, focusing on the Underwater Domain Awareness (UDA) framework. This program aims to empower mid-level officers (Scientist C/D, Under Secretary/Director level) from various Government and Allied Services with the knowledge and tools to manage marine and freshwater systems effectively. The workshop will address critical topics such as climate change mitigation, sustainable development, and digital transformation through Marine Spatial Planning (MSP).

Workshop Overview

The Maritime Research Center (MRC) is organizing a three-day workshop under the “Forestry Training and Capacity Building” scheme, focusing on the Underwater Domain Awareness (UDA) framework. This program aims to empower mid-level officers (Scientist C/D, Under Secretary/Director level) from various Government and Allied Services with the knowledge and tools to manage marine and freshwater systems effectively. The workshop will address critical topics such as climate change mitigation, sustainable development, and digital transformation through Marine Spatial Planning (MSP).

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Directive

The workshop is conducted under the “Forestry Training and Capacity Building” (FTCB) scheme, as approved by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). As per the directive dated April 2025, the participant limit for this training is set to a maximum of 30 mid-level officers to ensure quality and effectiveness.

Tentative Schedule

Day 1: Introduction to UDA

The session introduces the UDA framework and its diverse stakeholders, focusing on their roles. It explores unique challenges and opportunities in tropical waters. Participants will learn about digital transformation through Marine Spatial Planning for effective governance.

Day 2: Policy Interventions

This day covers gaps in global, regional, and local policies for water management. Socio-economic and socio-political perspectives of communities are discussed in depth. Case studies on coastal and riverine communities provide practical insights.

Day 3: Field Engagement

Participants experience hands-on digital tools for monitoring water systems. They interact with coastal communities in Konkan/Gujarat to understand dynamics. The session explores indigenous knowledge and sustainable practices for real-world application.
