MRC's take on MSP

Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) is a strategic approach to managing marine resources, balancing economic, social, and environmental interests. By using advanced data analysis, MSP addresses the unique challenges of marine environments, ensuring that ocean use is sustainable and equitable. It not only resolves current issues like resource conflicts and habitat degradation but also fosters a sustainable future relationship with our oceans, supporting both ecosystem health and economic development.

MSP Tool

The Maritime Research Centre (MRC) in collaboration with Nirdhwani Technology (NDT), has developed a unique tool for real-time assessment of Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) from ships. This advanced data analysis and prediction tool utilizes both AIS data and wind data to provide a realistic assessment of changes in noise due to shipping traffic and wind. This is particularly relevant in the low-frequency range, where noise from ships and wind are most dominant. The frequency of this noise coincides with the range used by marine mammals, making this tool crucial for understanding and mitigating impacts on these sensitive marine species.
